POKOTABI / Sanzen
三善
Sanzen, a sushi shop in Shinagawa's Togoshi-Ginza shopping street, serves nigiri sets, bountiful chirashi bowls with chawanmushi and miso soup, as well as evening small plates and regional sake.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Strolling along the Togoshi-Ginza shopping street, one quickly spots the understated facade typical of an established neighborhood sushi restaurant. Slide open the front door, and you are welcomed into a warm, approachable interior with counter seating and tables.
A midday favorite is the standard lunch nigiri set. Pieces such as tuna, shrimp, tamago, and white fish are neatly arrayed alongside tightly rolled tekka maki (tuna rolls), a small side dish, and miso soup. With vinegared rice that parts gently on the palate and vibrant toppings, the set offers the deft hand of a sushi artisan at an accessible daytime price. For those with a heartier appetite, sizing up to the 1.5-portion nigiri provides a very satisfying spread.
Beyond nigiri, the menu includes rice bowls and set meals. The lunch chirashi spreads varied seafood over seasoned rice, while the daily lunch special featuring marinated seafood donburi comes complete with steaming chawanmushi (savory steamed egg custard), miso soup, and a side dish. Non-raw options are also well accounted for, including freshly fried seafood tendon and the tempura and sashimi set meal, allowing diners to tailor lunch to the day's mood.
In the evening, the restaurant takes on an izakaya-like rhythm. Guests can linger over small plates like agedashi tofu or tuna tatsuta-age while sipping dry regional sakes such as Isojiman or Kikusui. Whether dropping by alone at the counter for a few pieces of sushi or sitting around a table with companions, it is a dependable neighborhood spot for unpretentious, authentic sushi.
